More about this event
Back in Singapore for its second consecutive year, SKECHERS Friendship Walk 2019 aims to bring a fun day of family bonding and team spirit to the riverscape at Marina Bay Sands Event Square, come 31 August 2019, Saturday. The 4km long non-competitive walk is also set to bring participants down memory lane with games, activities and food of yesteryear; test the camaraderie of participants with team challenges, as well as serve as an annual fundraiser to help those in need.
SKECHERS Friendship Walk was first held in 2009 by SKECHERS USA at Manhattan Beach, California, that brought together people from all walks of life for one common purpose – to support special needs and underprivileged children. Last year, the inaugural Walk in Singapore drew over 2,000 participants as they strode along the 5km route of the Gardens by the Bay East in support of Sunbeam Place, a residential home for the Children’s Society.
This year’s Walk will bring participants on a scenic route, passing by iconic landmarks and the city skyline, such as the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade Theatres and ArtScience Museum. Along the way, there will be three ‘obstacle zones’ which will require the teamwork and cooperation of participants to make it through.
And back at the race village, which will be transformed into a “Kampung”, it’s time to dial back the clock as participants can enjoy popular old school games and activities that will certainly draw out one’s nostalgic childhood memories! Parents can also introduce their young children to traditional Singaporean snacks.
In its aim to bring friendship and family bonding to another level, SKECHERS Friendship Walk 2019 is partnering Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) to build an inclusive community. To contribute to this cause, SKECHERS will donate $1 with every registration received, which will be used in purchasing shoes for needy APSN Alumni.
