Part of the 4 Deserts Race Series, the Gobi March (China) is a 250km ultra-marathon that spans over 7 days. This year's race marks the 12th edition of one of the toughest endurance events in the world. With international staff and medical teams on standby, about 150 runners from 40 different countries will participate in this self-supported event, carrying packs of up to 9kg over the course of the week. Passing through 30 checkpoints along the way, competitors will take anywhere from 24 to 70 hours to finish what is undoubtedly one of the most epic journeys in the world.
The terrain is a mixture of alpine hills, rocky river-beds, dusty tracks, narrow ridge paths, green pastures, sand dunes, salt flats and some river crossings. Temperatures during the Gobi March can vary greatly with a range between 15-30°C / 59-86°F during the day and as low as 0°C / 32°F at night.
