More about this event
Ready to climb? The HCMC SKYRUN is back!
Bitexco Financial Tower, will once again host Vietnam’s long running stair climbing race - the ‘HCMC Skyrun’. On October 30, runners will start at the tower’s ground floor and ascend 49 floors to the observation deck. They will face the challenge of running up a total 1,002 steps to a height of 178 metres, where, when recovered their breath, will see stunning views of Ho Chi Minh City’s skyline and the Saigon River.
Stair climbing, first known as “vertical races” in the 1970s, is now a global sport with stair climbing clubs hailing from the US, Canada, Europe and Asia as well as elite athletes who train year-round to be the first to reach the top of the world’s tallest buildings. Although still a relatively new sport, stair climbing has quickly caught on with fitness enthusiasts attracted not only by the physical demands of this grueling sport but by also the novelty of competing in unique urban settings – the world’s tallest structures, some of the tallest of which are located here in Asia, such as Bitexco Financial Tower, here in Ho Chi Minh City.
“After a three-year break due to covid-19, we are excited to bring back one of the most anticipated running events in Ho Chi Minh City,” said David Shin, of race organisers Sporting Republic. “We look forward to hosting runners from Vietnam and overseas”.
The race which marks its fifth edition this year, will feature four categories, 'Team Challenge 49', 'Full Challenge 49', 'Challenge 28', and 'Fun Climb 15'. The ‘Challenge 28 and ‘Fun Climb 15' events will be most appropriate for families, as they are open to younger participants.
Race Finish Moved to 49/F
Due to construction works on the 52nd floor adjacent to the helipad to this year, all races for the HCMC Skyrun 2022 will finish at the observation deck named Saigon Skydeck on the 49th floor. Runners will enjoy an amazing 360-degree view from the very center of the city.
Registration is now underway, giving runners a chance to secure their spot on the starting line for the race on October 30. Organisers once again anticipate strong demand for the race due to the tremendous popularity of running events in Vietnam and the 3 years waiting time due to Covid-19.
