More about this event
Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital is a private and not-for-profit 40-bedded and comprehensive cancer hospital with a mission of providing of high quality and compassionate care to patients in Malaysia. Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital stays true to the mission of making cancer treatment affordable to all cancer patients for the past 40 years regardless of age, race or religion.
Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital offers integrated cancer treatment services such as Tomotherapy, Radiation Therapy, Conventional Radiation, 3-D Conformed Radiation, Image Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS), Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRT) and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). We also provide Brachytherapy, Chemotherapy and Palliative Care for both local and international communities.
As a not-for-profit cancer hospital, we face the most significant challenge of rising cost of providing the most advanced, sophisticated equipment for accurate diagnosis and treatment of the various type of cancer. Hence, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital has set up the Needy Cancer Patient Fund. It was set up with the main aim to provide medical subsidy to deserving and needy patients. Despite escalating treatment cost, the hospital has always ensured that each patient is given the best possible treatment option regardless of their financial status. Last year, a total of RM1,438,732.81 has disbursed out in aid of 431 needy patients.
Prostate cancer is the fourth most common cancer among Malaysian men (Malaysian Oncological Society). On an annual basis globally, approximately 1.1 million men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 300,000 will die of the disease every year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). It is extremely vital for men, especially 45 years and above, to understand the importance of early health screening. Thus, we hope to gain the much needed prostate cancer awareness to our community through the Gentlemen’s Run 2016.
The artificial moustaches will be the signature of Gentlemen’s Run 2016, to show support and spread the awareness for prostate cancer. The month of September is the official international month for prostate cancer awareness. The event theme colour would be light blue colour, as the official international colour for prostate cancer awareness.
