CLUB RAINBOW (SINGAPORE) Ride & Ralk for Rainbows 2023
Press Release
(Updated as of 2 Aug 2023)

2 Aug 2023 - Club Rainbow has been supporting and empowering children with chronic and potentially life-threatening illnesses, and their families, through relevant services for the past 31 years. The children we serve, from as young as newborns to 20 years old, suffer from a wide range of illnesses, from developmental paediatrics to neurological, cardiovascular diseases and other genetic disorders. Many suffer from some form of disability and/or have special needs. In 2022, Club Rainbow served a total of 1,234 children.

2 One of our primary area of support is to ensure that their daily living needs are met through the provision of financial assistance to the children and their families from the lower income background. These assistance are in the form of food rations, therapy support and educational bursaries.

3 Launched in 2012, Ride for Rainbows (RFR) raises funds in support of the programmes and services conducted to enrich and empower our children. Since 2019, funds raised through RFR have been channelled to support our financial assistance services for our children and their families. Over the years, the event challenges the physical limits of the participants through gruelling cycling routes, the longest being 120km around Singapore, which reflects the struggles our children are going through in their constant fight against their medical conditions. To ensure a spot in the ride, the participants will have to raise different qualifying amounts corresponding to the distances of their choice.

4 Drawing encouragement from the success of our inaugural virtual run-cum-walk (thus RALK) last year, we have incorporated a new category, the 10km RALK where participants will raise $100 to qualify. We are also extending our virtual category to an epic distance of 300km Ride to continue challenging our long-distance cyclists who clock 100km rides regularly or have ventured beyond our fair shores to challenge their stamina and endurance. With this category conducted in the virtual format, these riders can also share with us photos of their rides, showing interesting sceneries and locations which would encourage other cyclists to go further.

5 The event will be graced by Guest of Honour, Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health. He will be leading and riding the 60km route.

6 The event timeline is as follows:

1 July Registration begins
1 July – 23 September Qualifying Period for all participants
Virtual Ride Challenge
30 September Event Pack Collection (Event pack will be delivered to GOH)
8 October Ride & Ralk for Rainbows 2023

7 We aim to have to 600 participants for our event this year, and marketing reach of over 20,000 through our various marketing initiatives. These participants will consist of corporate partners, individual members of the public. Notable personalities – then Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Celebrities Gurmit Singh and Ben Yeo, have all been a part of our past rides.
