More about this event
Action for Singapore Dogs Society (ASD), established in December 2000, is one of the oldest animal welfare groups in Singapore.
Our main fund raising event for 2018 is the Singapore Specials Run to be held on 11 November 2018. Our goal is to raise $111,111 to support the work that we do which is to improve the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore. We fulfil this through the rescuing and rehoming of such dogs, advocating sterilisation as a means of controlling the stray dog population, promoting responsible pet ownership, and highlighting the virtues of our local cross breed dogs aka Singapore Specials.
The Singapore Specials Run is an all inclusive race like no other! Participants get to run alongside about 500 dogs – including mobility challenged ones – of various breeds in support of our Singapore Specials. This event first started in 2010 and is a quadrennial event. The first Singapore Specials Run in 2010 attracted over 430 participants and 225 dogs. In 2014, the participation rate more than doubled to 890 participants and 417 dogs, setting the Largest Dog Jog record with the Singapore Book of Records! This year we are hoping to beat our previous record by aiming to have 1,111 people and 500 dogs participate in the run.
Our Guest of Honour for the event is Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, who will flag off the race.
